Welcome to the website of Penyrheol Bowling Club.

Members 2017

We are a friendly club offering bowling opportunities to both male and female bowlers of all ages and abilities. However 2025 saw the closure of two Bowling Clubs in the Rhymney Valley namely, Senghenydd, and Bargoed Welfare Bowling Club. If Council charges remain as they plan i.e. £6,000 raising to £10,000 per season then I fear there will be more closures. The fees mentioned above relate to the Maintenance charges of the bowling green and facility, nothing to do with the running costs of the bowling club.

At Penyrheol we have a club that was opened in 1966, sixty years ago this year, but with a membership of approx. thirty, and average age well above sixty, we are finding it difficult to stay afloat financially. We have several sponsors who are supporting and sponsoring the club, for which we are truly thankful. Unfortunately, we need more, members and sponsors to keep the facility viable and to be kept open for future generations to enjoy.

We as a club are proud in the fact that we have had several young members who played for Wales, and many of our players have and are, playing for the South Glamorgan County Association. We have also had many members who won County tournaments, and went on to play at the National Finals. The first President of the South Glamorgan Bowling Association was also a member of our Club.

We as a club have managed over the years to build a small surplus in our finances which we can use to subsidise our ongoing expenses for a couple of seasons, but after that without an influx of members or assistance I’m afraid the Club would have to fold, and if so, it would result in the loss of a local sporting facility in an area which is already lacking in facilities.

If you feel you are able to assist, by joining, sponsoring, or making a donation, to help, please contact me. or visit the club to find out more. where you would be made most welcome.
